Nepal » About Nepal

Snug in the Himalaya, Nepal is a land of eternal fascination, a place where the ice-cold of the high Himalaya meets the hot tropical plains. It's a land of ancient history, colorful cultures and friendly people, superb scenery and some of the best trekking destination on earth. Nepal is renown in the world for contrasting entities as Mt Everest and mighty Gurkhas. However, it is also one of the most intriguing countries in the world, thanks to its rich heritage, diverse cultures and people, astonishing bio-diversity and scenic grandeur. Nature has blessed the land with the greatest mountain range on earth, deep valleys, with torrential rivers snaking and cascading through high mountain to plain. The densely snow-forested peaks in the hills that in turn descend to steamy sub-tropical jungles. The constantly changing natural vegetation on each descent supporting an amazing variety of wildlife. The sharp drops in altitude within a span of limited longitudinal distance have resulted diverse ecosystems, with biologically diverse flora and fauna. All this - in holistic sense – impart bewitching charm to this magnificent land.

The Himalayan Country with a unique geographical position, sandwiched between China on its northern flank, and India all around three border land. However, the physical isolation did not restrict the lively interaction of its peoples with those of its neighbors. Since millennia, the culture, the traditions, the languages, the architecture, the art and the religions of this diverse nation have grown to colorful and vibrant dimensions, resulting composite nature cultures. Perhaps the most intriguing facet is the resplendent capital city Kathmandu that represents all these identity in microcosm; it is a small-scale reflection of the grand, mystifying, intriguing and glorious picture of the whole country.

Nepal is roughly rectangular in shape, longer in length than in breadth, which at at the narrowest point is a mere 120 miles! Nepal has highest attitudinal gradient attitudinal variation ranges from sea level to nearly thirty thousand feet within a span of short distance in which this contrasting elevation occurs; the resultant ridge and spur of mountain ranges with deep valleys (doons) in between are only natural. Furthermore, with the country’s tropical location, the variation of climatic regions within its domains ranges from the high alpine to the sub-tropical. The sky high mountains give birth to snow fed rivers and the Himalayas have their fair share of these too. While the magnificent Himalayan range runs east to west across the northern boundary of the country, the rivers that originate in it flows north to south through the country on their course to the Bay of Bengal.
