Tibetan New Year
Tibetan New Year, popularly known as Lhosar, is the greatest festival in Tibet. In ancient times, the flowering of the peach trees was considered to be the signal of the new year. Since the systematization of the Tibetan calendar in 1027 AD, the first day of the first month became fixed as New Year's Day. On this heyday, families unite. An "auspicious dipper" is offered, and the people greet and bow one another with great gusto auspicious pronouncing words "Tashi delek"

Great Prayer Festival
The greatest religious festival in Tibet was instituted by Tsongkapa in 1409, the founder of the Gelukpa Sect. All Monks from the Three Great Monasteries of Tibet gather in Jokhang to pay homage to Shakyamuni’s image as if it were the living Buddha. Series of Lively Philosophical debates are held among learned Buddhist scholars for the doctorate of Metaphysics. Pilgrims visit here from every nook corner of Tibet and lavish offering are made to monks.

Butter Lamp Festival

Generally it is held on the last day of the Great Prayer Festival. For celebrating Shakyamuni’s victory over non–Buddhist rivals, the Lord of Neu Dzong, a illustrious patron of Tsongkapa, enkindle numerous butter lamps in 1409. The festival has flourished to this day since then.

Gyantse Horse Race and Archery
Horse racing and archery are part of pleasure noble obsession of the people Tibet, and Gyantse enjoys the prestige of in Tibetan history to begin competitions in 1408. In old days times included horse racing, archery, and shooting off the back of a galloping horse followed by a few days’ entertainment or picnicking. Now a days, ball games, track and field events, folk songs, dances and barter trade are additional charms to the above

World Incense Day (Saga Dawa)
In this day Gods from heaven are believed to descend to bless the mortal world on to witness grand ceremony this day. Incense is burnt on a large scale and people enjoy in public places and parks.

Six—Four Festival
It is believed that on this auspicious day Buddha gave his first maiden sermon to his beloved disciples. To mark this event and celebrate the festival people visit to holy mountains and monastery there and around

Shoton Festival
This is the remarkable Opera Festival considered grandest of all festivals in Tibet. There is popular saving that ancient times, a holy man went into mountain retreats for penance. At the last day of the festival, yogurt is served as a meal followed by folk songs and dances as entertainment. Since the 7th century, opera performances have been held for days in Norbu Lingka. These days, opera contests and the distribution of prizes are made for all seven days.

Bathing Week
From the time immemorial its believed when the sacred planet Venus appears in the sky horizon, the water in the river get purified and gush out with great force is capable to cure diseases. During the week long Venus appearance in the firmament of the sky all urban people in Lhasa go into the river to bathe.

Death Anniversary of Tsongkapa
Tsongkapa, the great reformer of Tibetan Buddhism and founder of the Gelugpa Sect, passed away this day in 1419. For co memorization of that day, every household lits multitudes butter lamps on roof tops and keep on chanting prayers in his honor. Late hour in the evening Tibetan plump clamps and dumplings and are served for supper

Driving Off Evil Spirits
On the eve of Tibetan New Year, the 29th day of the twelfth month, religious dances are performed in monasteries to drive off the sinisterly forces evil spirits of the last year. At night, in every household, has traditional way of driving off evil spirits are by carrying bundles of out by burning pyre of straw and throwing all rubbish in the crossroads. The Year–End Dumpling is served Lavishly for supper.
