General Information

    Access To Tibet
Travel Information :
Passport: A traveller should possess a passport with validity remaining no less than six months. Make sure that it has plenty of blank pages for visas, entry and re-entry stamps and extensions. Losing passport in Tibet is not advisable as one will have to go to Beijing to get a new one.

Visa-Travel Permit :
A traveller to Tibet requires to obtain a special Group Visa/ Permit. The visa processing is initiated only after one books with a tour specialist. The original passport has to be submitted while applying for a Visa/ Permit at the Chinese Embassy in Nepal or abroad. We are eligible to process your visa/ permit even before your arrival in Kathmandu. Normally, the Chinese embassy in Kathmandu opens on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 09:30 AM to 11:00 AM. The Visa fee for a Tibet-bound traveller varies according to nationality.

Food :
In Lhasa there are some popular restaurants that provide Tibetan, Chinese and even Western food to visitors. These restaurants also serve Tibetan tea (salted butter tea), sweet milk tea, hot boiling black tea, Tibetan barley beer, soft drinks, canned beer, imported wines and spirits, and local beverages as well. Very basic food is available at Zhangmu and Xegar. Guesthouses and hotels offer basic accommodation.

Landslide and Extra Charges
Our company will make every effort to ensure that your journey is smooth and pleasant. However, during the monsoon, while crossing the Tibet-Nepal border you might need to incur extra expenditure such as hiring a porter or paying for additional transport due to landslides and road blockades.

Money
The circulated currency in Tibet is RMB. Foreign currency can be exchanged in the Bank of China in Lhasa and other cities. However, only the main offices of the bank will accept traveller's cheques and cash in advance. Visitors can convert money into RMB along with a valid passport. If one wants to visit remote areas in Tibet, one is advised to carry sufficient funds in RMB. Nevertheless, it is also advantageous to carry some US dollars as well.

Health Requirements
Our company reserves the right to refuse clients who are physically or mentally unfit permission to undertake long trips. A traveller to Tibet is required to provide a doctor's certificate confirming he/she is fit enough to travel and his/her blood pressure and heart condition are normal. This is a necessary requirement because of the possible effects that the very high altitude may have on certain people.

Final Payment
A traveller needs to transfer a minimum of US$ 300 per person, as deposit for permits and Visa processing, in advance, to our company's bank account. The rest of the payment must be made upon arrival in Kathmandu before the trip begins. The company accepts US$, Euros or any other convertible currency. We also accept final payment by a major credit card such as Visa or MasterCard.

Climate in Tibet
The climate in Tibet differs a great deal from one part of the country to another, and temperatures may experience a tremendous shift in range within a single day. In Lhasa and the central part of the country, however, the climate is mild and pleasant, especially from March to October, which makes these the best months for travelling. It is neither excessively cold in winter nor exceedingly hot in summer. Almost all the annual rainfall (90%) is received in the rainy season between May and September. The Lhasa, Sigatse and Chamdo areas are fortunate enough to be blessed with rainfall during the nights and sunshine in the daytime.
